It might snow...

Our trip to the cabin had been planned for weeks and when we heard that it might snow we were thrilled that the kids would actually get to see snow falling. When we stopped to put on chains, on Friday afternoon, it started to snow. The kids went bonkers! We drove the rest of the way in the snow, it was glorious! When we arrived at our destination, and found out that we couldn't get up to our cabin because the roads were too slick. Thank goodness for friends with 4-wheel drive! With 6 adults and 6 kids it took a few trips back and forth but we finally made it up to the cabin.
We woke up the next morning to a clear and amazing sunrise and about 4 inches of fresh snow, just enough to make it look like no one had touched it yet. There are some great hills around the cabin, so the kids went sledding and had a blast. They also had a snowman contest, they were so cute! That night Jack managed to take a fall down 5 wooden stairs and smack his head on the wood floor. He has a bump on his head and a few bruises on his arm but overall was fine; he just gave us all a good scare. Later, after all the little ones had gone to bed, 2 insane daddies went sledding in the dark with head lamps. They left around 9:45 and said, "We’ll just go down one time and be right back up." Well, at 11:00, 2 worried mommies were wondering how much longer to wait. And who exactly do you call at 11:00 at night to say, "Yes, my 32 year old husband went sledding in the dark and now I can't find him." Fortunately I did not have to make that call because they walked in moments later, grinning from ear to ear, boasting of their thrill seeking adventure.

Well, it started snowing again on Saturday night and all through the night. So when we awoke on Sunday we had received about 12 inches of snow and it was still coming down! We were hoping to get home in time to watch the Super Bowl, so the men started right away at digging the car out. It took about 2 and a half hours to get all three cars out and everybody and everything down from the cabin. Now it was nearly lunch time so we decided to grab some lunch before driving home, but when we went into "town" we were informed that a bus had thrown both chains and was stuck at the top of the hill. They were shuttling cars out, making it a one way road, and if we wanted to get in line we could probably leave in 30 minutes. I think we were the 25th car in line. We ate lunch in the car, the 30 minutes turned into an hour, and it was still snowing. We were finally able to leave, only to drive for 30 minutes and then wait for another hour. Then we drove a little farther and found out that 2 buses were now stuck. We sat on the side of the road for almost 3 hours, in the snow, in 28 degree weather. We turned the car on periodically to warm it up and then turned it off. The boys made a lot of yellow snow, we actually got Jack to poop in a plastic bag. I know they're bad for the environment, but THANK GOD for plastic bags. We tied our little "poop-sicle" to the outside handle of the car. We happened to have one of those Glad containers that Kaitlyn and I could pee in, it was SO gross. But we had been in the car for 5 hours, we really had no choice. I even got to finish knitting a scarf I had been working on! They would have sent us back to the cabin except ANOTHER bus was stuck, blocking the road they other way. We were in a bus sandwich. Around 4:30 they got the buses in front of us off the road! We were going home! We listened to the game on the radio, when we had reception. We finally got home at 7pm, we watched the last 2 minutes of the game, watched the Giants snatch the Super Bowl title right out from under the Patriots!

(Taken out the car window)

We were in the car for 7 hours; the trip usually takes 2 hours in the snow, we are so happy to be home. Home is good.

nope, don't miss those days of crappy driving on the way to H Lake. I hated that.

Did you know that people around here don't put chains on their tires unless its their tractor. Yup, its weird to think about.

Poop in a bag dangling from the door handle. It's too much.

You guys really deserve a trip to the spa after that.
