Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

When Kaitlyn turned 4 years old, my parents bought her this little bike (well, almost this exact one, except her tires were black). She does not fit on it anymore and we bought her a new bike a couple of weeks ago. Instead of giving it away, we decided to transform it into a new bike for Jack!
1 can of Silver spray paint: $4.19
Sandpaper: $5.47
New bike tube (flat back tire): $4.99
Black handle bar grips: $7.19
Black seat cover: borrowed from Grandpa (used to be on Uncle Scott's old bike)

Cost of the "NEW" bike: $21.84

24 hours later......
We would like to find some cool decals or something to spice it up a little, but he LOVES his new bike! Hooray for making old things new!

The Wounds of Summer

Jack + Running + With Flippers on + The Diving Board =
(He's a skinny kid, but in the picture he's sucking his tummy in, please don't think my child is malnourished!)

Apparently it looks worse than it feels, because he spent all afternoon doing this:

This was their first experience with a slip 'n' slide. I showed them how "it was done." Oh my word. There should be a warning label, "Not for adults over 30 years old." I slid all the way down but it was more of a "thunk" and then a slide. It wasn't pretty! But the kids had fun and the boys only ran on it twice, resulting in them hitting the back of their heads. I hope they learned their lesson!

Wishing you all a SAFE and fun 4th of July!

Birthday Traditions

It is a birthday tradition that when the grand kids turn 5, they go to Build-*-Bear with Grandma and Grandpa Doo. This weekend was finally Jack's long awaited turn! He had so much fun!
Of course he picked the "Jack- Russell Terrier." It totally fits though, hyper dog, hyper kid! Here is the before picture and my son too excited to look at the camera.
Jack putting a heart inside his new friend!
This one totally makes me crack up! The routine is this: the guy asks Jack to give him "five" and to be funny, he moves his hand and then accuses Jack of "hitting" him on the leg. We saw it done right before us with a sweet little girl. What the poor guy didn't know was that now he was dealing with Jack. So, when the guy asks Jack for "five" Jack decides to make a fist and totally whomp on the guy's hand. You can see where this is going...instead, Jack smashes his fist into the guy's leg. The guy played it off, but we could tell that he was not expecting that! I just love this picture! His face in agony! Is that wrong?
Jack was a bit enthusiastic about "washing" his dog!
All done and dressed! He went with a "soccer uniform" for clothes! It's absolutely adorable and I'm glad he had so much fun! Thank you Grandma and Grandpa Doo!

Jack is 5!

Yesterday Jack turned 5! I cannot believe that my baby is 5 already! He has been looking forward to turning 5 for such a long time. We had a great day celebrating with him! We started his day with breakfast in bed! I absolutely love his face here!
Daddy had to go into work late so that he could help Jack build his birthday present, the Lego X-Wing Fighter! It was a great set that came with Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, R2D2 and some other guy that I was not familiar with.
The handsome Jack-man!
Party, friends and the pinata (it looked like a Lego brick but I never got a picture of it before it was munched)
We found a delicious cake at Whole Foods that Jack could eat. It is completely dairy-free! It was one of the most delicious cakes I have ever eaten! If you're interested try the Vegan Chocolate Cake!
So, Happy Birthday Jack! I love you so much and I am so proud of how much you've grown! You continue to challenge and stretch me, but you never cease to make me laugh and amaze me! You are one of a kind and I'm so glad you're mine!

Summer is here!

Well, almost. Technically we have 2 more days of Spring, but at this point, who's counting? We are settling into a nice summer routine of riding bikes, swimming, eating outside and all the other lovely activities that come with summer vacation!

Kaitlyn had her ballet recital last week and she danced so well! She had the biggest smile on stage and all night long! I am so proud of her, she worked hard this year! Her ballet studio did "Pilgrim's Progress" and her class was the "sunshine!"
On Monday, Kyle learned how to ride a two-wheeler! Remember, he is my cautious child and up til now has never even attempted riding a two-wheeler. He doesn't even have a bike of his own and usually just rides his scooter. Until Monday, when he decided that that was the day to ride a bike! He did so well and I am very proud of him! Of course we had to go buy a bike that day (can you say impulse buy?) But really, how can he learn how to ride a bike and then not have one to ride?

And then there's Mister Jack Man. I taught him how to pull thorns off of Grandma's rose bush and then stick them to his nose. He loves to put on 3 thorns and pretend to be a triceratops! He is certainly keeping us entertained! He turns 5 soon and I can hardly believe it!

These two are my crazies of the bunch and they were pretending to have a triceratops fight! Kyle deemed this "unsafe" and stayed out of it. Thank the Lord for Kyle! I pray that he will always be the one to say, "Um, guys? I don't think this is a good idea!"

Anyway, that's our summer so far! Hope your summer is going well!

Boys

Last week while a friend of Kyle's was over playing I overheard this conversation....

Friend: "Hey, listen to this song...(starts singing) Two girls for every boy!" (Remember the song "Surf City"?)

Kyle: Pauses, then "Ewwwww!"

Friend: "I know."

I nearly fell off the couch. I wonder how long it will be until they actually "get" that song.

Eleven Years!

Tomorrow Jeff and I celebrate our 11th anniversary! It rained today, which is very appropriate. If you don't know this story you can visit my mom's blog for a detailed account of our wedding day. I finally figured out how to scan pictures on the printer we've had for two years, ha! So for your viewing pleasure here are a few of my favorite wedding pictures!
I love this man so much more than I could have ever dreamed! Can't wait for many more years with you babe! Love you!
